Abstract The tadpole of Hyla lascinia is described on the basis of specimens from the vicinity of Delicias, Estado Táchira, south-western Venezuela. This larva differs from other hylid larvae in the high Venezuelan Andes by the following combination of characters: nostrils opening with a smooth and lightly protuberant rim, free edges of the rostrodonts smooth, marginal papillae of the oral disc in double row, formula of keraodont rows 8/11, interorbital distance wider than internarial distance, caudal musculature reaching tip of tail. New information on the external morphology and natural history of tadpoles of Hyla jahni and Hyla platydactyla are given, as well as comments on morphological features of larvae in the Hyla bogotensis group. |
